Meeting of OIC senior experts on Afghanistan begins in Pakistan

Islamabad, IRNA -- A meeting of senior experts from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member-states, including the Islamic Republic of Iran, kicked off in Islamabad on Saturday to review the situation in Afghanistan.

The meeting of senior experts of the OIC members began with the presence of delegations from various countries, including the Joint Secretary of Pakistan’s foreign ministry and Assistant Secretary-General of the OIC on humanitarian affairs in the assembly hall of the Senate of Pakistan.

Seyed Rasoul Mousavi, Assistant to Foreign Minister and Director General of South Asia, and Seyed Mohammad Ali Hosseini, Ambassador of Iran to Pakistan attended the meeting as members of the Iranian delegation.

Senior officials of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and observer countries are present at the summit. Representatives of the permanent members of the UN Security Council are also scheduled to attend an extraordinary meeting of foreign ministers of Islamic countries.

Hours before the summit, Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said the aim of the meeting is to review the agenda of tomorrow's meeting of the foreign ministers of Islamic countries and to work on a common strategy by the Islamic world to help overcome the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.

Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hossein Amirabdollahian is scheduled to head a high-level delegation in the extraordinary meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Islamic countries in Islamabad to be held tomorrow (Sunday).
