Addressing the week-long World Health Organization Framework Conference on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC), he said Iran joined two tobacco control and uprooting the illegal trafficking of tobacco products conventions in 2005 and 2019, and those two documents are the only WHO conventions aimed at countering the destructive effects of tobacco products thus far.
Baqaie highlighted the destructive effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and the negative effects of smoking on its spread and also said that based on an initiative by Islamic Republic of Iran, the final statement of the conference will be titled “The 9th Declaration of the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control and Recovery in Post-Corona Era”.
The most important issue to be considered by the event is the destructive efforts made by the gigantic world tobacco industries, and their penetration into the daily lives of member nations that threaten the world health seriously, further reiterated Baqaie.
He said that tobacco consumption puts at stake the health of world nation so it's negative impacts on materializing the objectives of comprehensive development of the countries should be given due attention.
The World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) is a treaty adopted by the 56th World Health Assembly held in Geneva.
