Amirabdollahian: Iranian, Azeri officials' vigilance clears up misunderstandings

Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian in a telephone conversation with his Azeri counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov on Saturday said that Iranian, Azeri officials' vigilance has led to passing through misunderstandings.

Amirabdollahian and Bayramov made a telephone conversation on Saturday and discussed bilateral relations.

Recalling the brotherhood and close ties between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan, Amirabdollahian noted that in recent months, along with the emergence of some misunderstandings, parties that do not like good relations between the two states had been activated, which they have passed through with the Iranian, Azerbaijani officials' vigilance and now they can move towards further expansion of bilateral cooperation.

The Iranian diplomat reiterated that the Islamic Republic of Iran supports regional formats, including the P3+3 format, and believes that regional problems can be resolved through intra-regional mechanisms.

Jeyhun Bayramov, for his part, stated that others should not be allowed to use misunderstandings between the two countries, stressing that any misunderstanding should be corrected in the environment of friendship and brotherhood, and Baku is ready to expand relations comprehensively.

Bilateral trade relations and the appointment of representatives in the joint economic commission of the two countries were among other issues mentioned in the call.

Bayramov took on Twitter on the issue, writing "Had a telephone conversation with my honorable colleague from #Iran
@Amirabdolahian. Wished him strong health and speedy recovery from Covid-19. We restated our commitment to further development of mutual cooperation and contribution to peace & prosperity in the region."
