Iran, Iraq sign joint statement on expanding legal, judicial ties

Tehran, IRNA – Justice ministers of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Iraq signed a joint communiqué on expanding legal and judicial relations.

The joint communiqué was drafted and signed by Iran’s Justice Minister Amir Hossein Rahimi and his Iraqi counterpart Salar Abdul-Sattar Mohammad in four paragraphs based on good faith and the necessity to strengthen bilateral ties.

Regular talks in the form of joint legal committee focusing on more efficient implementation of legal and judicial agreements, exchange of experience on human rights, fight on corruption, children rights, repatriation of convicted nationals, and drafting of an agreement on extradition of corrupt assets were among the most important issues raised in the communiqué.

Iraqi Justice Minister is paying a 4-day visit to Iran to visit Iran’s senior judicial officials.

Interaction between Iran and Iraq to pursue the case of martyrdom of former IRGC Quds Force Commander Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani and former Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces Commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.

Soleimani and al-Muhandis along with several companions were assassinated by the US Army in January 2020 in Baghdad.
