Iran urges speedy identifying, trial of Gen Soleimani assassins

Tehran, IRNA – Iran's Judiciary deputy for international affairs and the Secretary General of Human Rights Office Kazem Gharibabadi called for speedy identification and trial of those who ordered and carried out the assassination plot against the martyred IRGC commander Major General Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.

He made the remark in a Tuesday evening meeting with the visiting Iraqi Justice Minister Abdul Sattar Muhammad and his accompanying delegation during which they exchanged viewpoints on issues of mutual interest and bilateral judiciary interactions.

Gharibabadi noted that the hegemonic countries are practicing double standards on human rights, using it as a means for exerting pressure against the independent countries.

He referred to the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) during the former Iranian judiciary chief’s visit of Iraq on counter-terrorism activities and surveying the terror file of Martyr Soleimani, through the establishment of a joint investigation committee.

Gharibabadi further asked the Iraqi justice minister to see into fast convening of the first session of that committee to identify the culprits involved in that criminal act and put them to fair trial in and Iraqi court.

The Iraqi justice minister, too, said that he welcomed the experiences of Iranian judiciary's Human Rights office and noted that in Iraq, too, there is a human rights office affiliated to the Judiciary Force, which is ready to cooperate with the one in Iran.

Muhammad also said that surveying on the martyrdom of the two top Iraqi and Iranian commanders is up to the Iraqi Supreme Judiciary Council, promising to pursue the matter after returning to Iraq and try to facilitate the process.
