Iranian general says will pursue arms deal with Russia

Moscow, IRNA – Iran’s Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri, who is on a visit to Moscow, said on Monday that he will pursue the implementation of a contract for selling of fighter jets, training jets, and combat helicopters from Russia.

Speaking during a meeting with Iranian experts in Iran’s embassy in Moscow, General Baqeri said that the contract has been signed after the lifting of an arms embargo on Iran.

He said that discussions on mutual cooperation, defense, and military relations, the latest regional and international developments, as well as the fight against terrorism, are on the agenda of his visit to Moscow.

"We need a roadmap to have strong relations with countries, especially Russia and other neighboring countries,” the general said.

Referring to a 25-year comprehensive cooperation deal with China, Baqeri said that there may be a need for such a document between Iran and Russia too.
