Major-General Mohammad Bagheri has been invited by Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
The chief of staff of the Iranian Armed Forces heading a high-level military delegation arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday evening to expand military cooperation with Pakistan.
Lieutenant General (Retd) Talat Masood expressing his views said that Iran-Pakistan share long border where some elements try to create problems for both of the neighboring states.
He strongly believed that General Bagheri’s visit would enhance trust between the two countries, adding that it shows continuous engagement of the high military command of Iran and Pakistan.
He added that security cooperation between the intelligence agencies of the two countries is very important at this juncture especially after developments in Afghanistan.
Talat Masood viewed that cooperation between the security forces of Iran and Pakistan would help curbing activities of terrorists, smuggling, and human and drug trafficking in border regions.
He noted that sometimes people try to enter Iran illegally with a purpose to cross into Europe which also needs to be checked.
“No doubt that Major General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri’s visit to Pakistan is a welcoming development which would further enhance bilateral cooperation in defense sector,” he said.
