Hafez's poems filled with Quranic, divine teachings: Academic

Tehran, IRNA - Inspecting around 400 poems written by renowned Persian poet Hafez proves that none of his lyrics is empty of Quranic and divine teachings, a university professor believes.

On the occasion of the national day of Hafez in Iran, IRNA interviewed Esmail Amini, an academic and a literature researcher, on Tuesday, who emphasized the great Persian poet of all times attached great importance to using divine teachings in his poems.

Some researchers are of the opinion that the prominent poet was named Hafez, because he memorized the holy Quran and utilized Quranic concepts in his poems.

Some Shia scholars, such as Martyr Morteza Motahhari lauded Hafez's mystical poems.

Amini said that most Persian literature poets and authors have had good command of religious knowledge, because they studied at old training schools, named in Persian Maktabkhaneh, where they were taught Quran and Islamic teachings.

Therefore, Hafez learnt Quran based on 14 narrations and he knew all kinds of Quran recitation forms, the researcher noted.

Hafez's poems were completely influenced by the holy Quran, he said, adding that nobody can say that there are a few times that Hafez used Quranic verses and teachings.

Certain so-called elite tried to portray Hafez as a figure who was not in line with religious culture, while there is no poem that is irrelevant to divine and Quranic teachings, he noted.

Hafez's poems are showing a kind of eloquence, which comes from the holy Quran, Amini said, adding that the rhetoric Aesthetics of Quran affected Hafez's poems.

Another significance of Hafez is that his poems are comprehensive while they are not repetitive artistic work, the researcher noted.

Hafez's poems have been reflecting spiritual and emotional situation of human-beings; thus, readers feel that the world described in his poem is completely familiar for them.
