Greco-Roman team tanks world 2nd with 4 gold, 2 bronze medals

Tehran, IRNA – The Iranian national Greco-Roman wrestling team won four gold and two bronze medals at 2021 Oslo World Wrestling Championship, ranked the world 2nd best team in the major sport event.

The 2021 Greco-Roman competitions that began on October 7 will end tonight (Sunday) after announcing the world top wrestlers and teams.

The ranking and final matches of the 60, 97, and 130 kg weights began at 7:30 pm, yesterday at Jordal Wrestling Hall of Oslo, Norway.

At the end, the 63 kg weight Meysam Delkhani, the 67 kg Mohammad-Reza Geraie, the 97 kg Mohamamd-Hadi Saravi, and the 130 kg Ali-Akbar Yusefi gained gold medals, and the 77 kg Mohammad-Ali Geraie and the 82 kg Pezhman Poshtam gained bronze medals.

The Iranian team with 146 points ranked 2nd in the world, while the Russian and Azerbaijan teams, respectively with 152 and 107 points ranked first and third, respectively.

The Iranian national Greco-Roman team had for the first time ranked world champion in the year 2014 before tonight’s 2nd world best rank. It has also ranked 2nd best in the year 2009, and twice 3rd place in the years 2011 and 2017.

The proud Iranian national Greco-Roman team has altogether won 47 world medals, including 16 gold, 6 silver and 25 bronze medals.

Yet, this was the first time since 1961 Yokohama, Japan athletics that Iran had four finalists and gained four gold medals.
