Yusefi gains Iranian wrestling history’s first heavy weight gold

Tehran, IRNA – 130 kg weigh Iranian national freestyle athlete Ali Akbar Yusefi in the final match of his weight defeated his Russian competitor to gain the Iranian wrestling history’s first and the Iranian Greco-Roman team’s 2nd gold medal in Norway.

The 2021 Greco-Roman competitions that began on October 7 will end tomorrow (Sunday) after announcing the world top wrestlers and teams.

The ranking and final matches of the 60, 97, and 130 kg weights began at 7:30 pm, today at Jordal Wrestling Hall of Oslo, Norway.

Yusefi in his Saturday match against his EU bronze wining athlete from Russia managed to beat him five-nil to win the world gold medal. He had two months ago, too, in Serbia Greco-Roman International Competitions managed to beat another Russian athlete. His gold medal on Saturday was the Iranian national Greco-Roman team’s second in 2021 Greco-Roman competitions.

Ali-Akbar Yusefi thus registered his name as the first heavy weight Iranian finalist to win the gold medal in past 60 years and make wonder.

Another Iranian athlete, Mohammad-Hadi Saravi, the 97 kg weight athlete beat his Hungarian competitor to win the gold medal of his weight in the games.

Tomorrow, too, Iran’s 67 kg weight athlete will face the EU silver medal holder Nazi Abolayev from Russia in the final, while Iran’s other wrestler, Meysam Delkhai will face Larry Abuladze, the EU bronze medal holder from Georgia in the final.
