Supreme Leader calls on Afghan authorities to punish culprits of deadly mosque bombing

Tehran, IRNA – Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, in a message on Saturday, urged the Afghan authorities to punish the culprits of a deadly bombing at a mosque in the northern Afghan city of Kunduz.

Ayatollah Khamenei called for measures to prevent the repetition of such tragedies, which killed dozens of prayers.

The Supreme Leader said he was saddened by the incident, praying for the soul of the martyrs to rest in peace, and speedy recovery for those injured.

A bomb blast near a Shia mosque in Kunduz has killed over 50 people and injured many more so far, sources have reported.

Earlier on Saturday, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ebrahim Raisi expressed condolences over the martyrdom a large number of people in Afghanistan during the recent terrorist attack.

Iranian President has condemned the attack in Kunduz, saying the heinous crime was carried out with US support.

In a related event earlier on Saturday, the Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism has issued a statement to decry the recent terrorist attack in Kunduz of Afghanistan.

A terrorist attack on the Sayed Abad Mosque in the Afghan city of Kunduz killed and injured more than 190 innocent people who were praying, including women and children.

This crime and other similar crimes show that religions are among the main targets of terrorists and prove once again that there was no nexus between religious thoughts and teachings and violence and extremism. However, the divine religions are attacked by anti-religionists and instrumental terrorism because of enlightenment and the elimination of superstitions and forgeries from societies.

Condemning this terrorist attack and expressing its condolences and sympathy to the mourning families of the victims of terrorism in Afghanistan and wishing a quick recovery to the injured, the Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism calls on the international community and leaders of religions around the world to raise awareness about terrorism in order to undermine the abuses of religions in deceiving public opinion and prevent the continuation of such heinous crimes in the name of religion originating from forgeries and superstitions.
