ICT Minister Isa Zarepour met on Saturday with Turkey's Information and Infrastructure Minister and the Secretary-General of D8 on the sidelines of the D8 ICT ministers meeting in Istanbul.
In the meeting, Zarepour said that D8 member-states are geographically scattered, but communications can fill in the geographical gap and become a driving force for the reactivation of the organization.
He proposed forming a permanent ICT committee to acceleration the cooperation of member-states and that Iran host the committee.
D8 Secretary-General Dato' Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari welcomed the proposal and hoped that the meeting of D8 ministers would be held in Iran soon and the committee would be formed.
Adil Karaismailoğlu, Turkey’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Zarepour called for cooperation on the development of infrastructure for communications, cross-border data traffic transmission, border data centers, and Iranian and Turkish operators’ cooperation.
He also pointed to the necessity of cooperation between Iran and Turkey in the international arena, including in the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).
Karaismailoğlu welcomed the proposal to develop a joint border data center and cooperation between internet platforms.
