Iran says is ready to extend gas export contract with Iraq

Tehran, IRNA – Deputy Oil Minister in Gas Affairs Majid Chegeni said in a meeting with an Iraqi delegation that the Islamic Republic of Iran was ready to extend its contract with Iraq to export gas.

Chegeni, who had a meeting with a high delegation from Iraq’s Ministry of Electricity on Wednesday, highlighted Iran’s strategic relationship with Iraq and cultural and religious ties between the two nations.

Asking the Iraqi side to abide by current contracts and previous agreements, the official said that Iran’s Oil Ministry was ready to consider new proposals from Iraq’s Ministry of Electricity to extend the existing gas export contract.

Iran has two contracts with Iraq to export gas to the country with a total capacity of 35 million square meters a day.
