President Raisi says Iran favors relations based on mutual respect

Tehran, IRNA – President Ebrahim Raisi said on Sunday that Iran aims to cooperate with all countries but noted that such cooperation has to be based on mutual respect.

Raisi made the remarks during a meeting in Tehran with the new British Ambassador to Iran, Simon Shercliff, where the new ambassador submitted a copy of his credentials to the president.

Referring to the spirit of independence and freedom-seeking in the Iranian people, the Iranian president said that the Iranians will never bow to the bullying powers and will rather react to their acts of bullying.

Mutual respect is the best way to interact with the Iranian people, Raisi said, noting that the Western powers and Europe have to look at Iran as an independent country.

The new British ambassador, for his part, said that he has traveled to Iran after 20 years for a second mission.

Shercliff, who is replacing Rob Macaire, said that he has a good knowledge of Iran and aims to improve relations between the two countries.

He used to serve as second secretary of the British mission in Tehran in 2000 – 2003.
