Iran, Belarus explore ways to expand ties in sports, tourism

Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Ambassador in Belarus Saeed Yari met the country’s Minister of Sports and Tourism Sergey Kovalchuk on Tuesday to explore expansion of cooperation on sports and tourism.

Yari said that Iran’s Ministry of Sports and Youth and Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts were ready to expand ties with Belarus, calling for formation of joint specialized working groups.

He officially invited Kovalchuk to pay a visit to Iran and urged launching a direct flight between Tehran and Minsk, facilitating issuance of group visas for tourism.

Kovalchuk pointed to the meeting of Iran and Belarus presidents this month on the sidelines of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Tajikistan, describing it as a sign of intimacy between the two countries.

He expressed hope that the legal obstacles to issuing tourism visas and establishing direct flight would be removed.

He also said that his country was ready to hold online coach training and education camps, and also exchange sports delegations with Iran.
