US must end economic war against Iran: IRNA CEO

Tehran, IRNA – CEO of Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) Mohammad Reza Noroozpour said that the US must end the economic war against Iran to be able to claim that they’re not in war anymore.

Noroozpour said the remarks in a tweet, reacting to US President Joe Biden’s Twitter message on his address in the United Nations General Assembly session on Tuesday.

Biden said that for the first time in 20 years, the United States is not at war, referring to the US recent withdrawal from Afghanistan that was widely criticized by the international community as being irresponsible.

Noroozpour wrote in his tweet, "There are different types of war, some of which are more brutal than the military ones. The Iranian nation is still suffering from the consequences of the US cruel economic war. End this, and then claim you’re not at war."

The US has waged an announced economic war against Iran after former US President Donald Trump ceased participation in a nuclear deal with Iran and resumed all sanctions removed by the deal. Biden has vowed to rejoin the deal, but he has yet to decide on removing the sanctions that were imposed, which are in contradiction to the deal terms.
