-- Iran’s five-month trade with ECO members nears $5b
Iran’s trade with the members of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) reached $4.97 billion in the first five months of the current Iranian year (March 21-August 22) to register a 38 percent increase year-on-year, said the spokesman of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA).
According to Rouhollah Latifi, the volume of trade with the ECO countries also increased by eight percent in comparison with the previous year’s same five months.
-- Iran to boost refineries’ production capacities: Minister
Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji announced the ministry’s two major plans for boosting the production capacities and quality of the country’s refineries.
The minister said, “Considering the current production capacity of oil products in the country’s oil refineries and various uses, increasing refining capacity is undoubtedly a need,” Shana reported.
He added the first plan is to increase the capacity of existing refineries (both those that have crude oil feed and those that use gas condensate) in terms of quality and quantity of oil products, and the second plan is to build new petro-refineries.
-- Qazvin ancient gardens en route to global registration
The Qazvin Traditional Gardens, with over a thousand years’ history, are en route to global registration.
The city of Qazvin in northern Iran was surrounded by these gardens (baghestan) in the past, but the gardens are now limited to the southern, eastern, and western parts of the city.
The capital city of Qazvin Province, 150 kilometers northwest of Tehran, dates back to the Sassanid Era (224-651 BCE).
In an exclusive interview with Iran Daily, Mojtaba Abbasi, who is in charge of the anthropology section in Qazvin Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Department, said these gardens date back to the Sassanid Era.
In ancient times, the gardens had an area of more than 5,000 hectares, surrounding Qazvin, said Abbasi.
Today, the area of the gardens has declined to over half – about 2,800 hectares – including orchards, most of whose products are grapes, pistachios and almonds, he added.

-- Iran Warns IAEA: Avoid Playing Politics
Iran’s nuclear chief on Monday reiterated the country’s full and constant cooperation with the IAEA, urging the UN nuclear agency to remain independent and impartial and avoid politically-motivated decisions.
Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Muhammad Eslami made the remarks while addressing the 65th regular session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) which kicked off in the Austrian capital of Vienna.
“Iran has always cooperated with the Agency. At the same time, it is necessary that the IAEA avoids playing politics and maintains its independence, impartiality and professionalism,” Eslami said.

Spokesman for Islamic Republic of Iran Custom Administration (IRICA) Seyyed Rouhollah Latifi saidon Monday that $5 billion worth of non-oil goods was exchanged between Iran and Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) member states from Mar. 21 to Aug. 21.
About eight million tons of non-oil goods, valued at $5 billion, were exchanged between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) member states in the first five months of the current Iranian calendar year (from March 21 to August 21), Latifi said.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei appreciated the Iranian men’s volleyball team on winning the Asian crown for the fourth time.
Ayatollah Khamenei on Monday issued a letter of appreciation to the Iranian men’s volleyball team on the occasion of their victory in the 2021 Asian Volleyball Championship.

-- Iran, UK FMs meet in New York
The British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss was to meet Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian in New York on Monday to discuss detained British nationals in Iran and the 2015 nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.
Truss will meet Abdollahian at the UN General Assembly in New York today (20 September 2021), the British government website said.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman confirmed on Sunday that Abdollahian will hold bilateral meeting with foreign ministers of the countries still signatory to the JCPOA. The West is pushing for Iran’s return to the Vienna talks for a possible revival of the deal that was abandoned by the U.S. in May 2018.
-- Iran lose to Argentina in FIFA Futsal World Cup
Iran were defeated against Argentina 2-1 in their last match in the preliminary round of the 2021 FIFA Futsal World Cup on Monday.
In the match held at the Avia Solutions Group Arena in Vilnius, Lithuania, Leandro Cuzzolino scored for Argentina in the 24th minute and Damian Satazzone made the scoreboard 2-0 three minutes later.
Iran captain Aliasghar Hassanzadeh pulled a goal back in the 30th minute. Iran put the defending champions under pressure to equalize the match and with one minute remaining, Hassanzadeh leveled the score from the set piece but the referee disallowed his goal.
-- Iranian masters of filigree to participate at Dubai Expo
Some Iranian masters of filigree, who are natives of Zanjan, a world city of the ancient craft, are planned to take part at the Dubai Expo, which will be held from October 1, 2021, to March 31, the provincial tourism chief has announced.
A number of magnificent filigree works will be showcased at the expo, along with several live performances from craftspeople as well as workshops by the field’s masters, Amir Arjmand said on Monday.
The event is expected to provide an excellent venue for introducing and promoting the art on a global scale, the official added.
