Better understanding between Tehran, Riyadh in everyone's interest: PM Imran

Islamabad, IRNA -- The Prime Minister of Pakistan strongly believes that better understanding between Tehran and Riyadh is in the interest of the region and the world.

In an interview to Arabic section of Russia Today (RT) television on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, he said the Islamic Republic of Iran is the most civilized neighbor of Pakistan.

“We live together forever; joint trade is better for the two countries and the whole region,” he said.

The Pakistani prime minister referred to Saudi Arabia as Islamabad's closest ally and old friend and said Islamabad is sincerely seeking an understanding between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

He expressed concern about what he called a possible conflict between Iran and Saudi Arabia, saying that it would be disastrous not just for Pakistan but for the developing world.

Imran Khan noted that there is already shortage of oil supply in the world due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 which affects most developing countries.

He added that any confrontation between Iran and Saudi Arabia will have an immediate impact on oil prices, and this will be devastating for the poor people around the world.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan said that not just Pakistan but everybody should ensure formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan to strengthen national unity and to create long-term stability in the war-torn country.

He said Pakistan is working with the neighbors of Afghanistan to determine what the Afghan government should do to gain international community’s recognition.
