Iran enjoys great history, civilization: Japanese artist

Tehran, IRNA – A Japanese artist told Iran’s cultural attaché in Tokyo that his knowledge of the Islamic Republic was restricted to its oil reservoirs, but he has found out that the country has a great and developed history and civilization.

Tsukamoto Soh, a 65-year-old artist whose painting named “Beyond a Memory” was displayed at the Iran-Japan Cultural Exchange Exhibition in Tokyo in July, held talks with Iranian cultural attaché Hossein Divsalar.


The Japanese artist said that after 45 years of conducting art work, he found out that the Iran-Japan Cultural Exchange Exhibition in Tokyo was one of the best artistic programs, hoping that more works of Japanese and Iranian artists will be displayed in future exhibitions.


Before the exhibition, I thought Iran is only an oil-rich country, which was gripped by a long war with Iraq, and many Japanese people think Iran and Iraq are the same; therefore, I didn’t have special knowledge of it, he said, adding that he is very delighted that thanks to the exhibition and creating the painting “Beyond a Memory”.

I could get familiar with Iran more than before and I’m interested in traveling to Iran for the first time, because I have found out Iran is a country with great, long, pretty, and developed history and civilization, he said.


He also expressed hope to see more collaborations and coordination between Iranian and Japanese artists.


The Iran-Japan Cultural Exchange Exhibition was organized with contributions from Iran’s Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) and the Iran Cultural Center in Tokyo, with the participation of eight professional Japanese artists.


Japanese artists Jun Matsubara, Shigenobu Moriyama, Hideko Murata, Takumi Sejima, Kidai Taguchi, Soh Tsukamoto, Syouichirou Tsukuda and Kazunori Yamauchi displayed a number of artworks at the exhibition.


"Beautiful Iran", "A Day to Thank Family Members", "Persepolis", "Travel", "Beyond a Memory", "Tehran", "A Fantasy of Pars with a Vase and Tulip", and "Desert and Flower" were among the artworks of the artists showed at the exhibition.
