SCO, beginning of active diplomacy of new Iranian Govt

Sari, IRNA - The visit of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to Tajikistan to attend Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is the beginning of active diplomacy of the new Iranian government in region and in international system, a university professor in north Iran said on Thursday.

Talking to IRNA, Danial Rezapour said foreign policy of the new government is serious in strengthening relations with neighbors.

Presence in international summits is an indication of Iran's active diplomacy, the professor said.

Referring to great economic capacities of SCO member states, the university official said Iran's multilateral and bilateral ties will increase after its membership in the Organization.

Iran acts as the SCO observer as of 2005.

Earlier,  Iranian president said on Thursday that the Islamic Republic's first priority is the broadening of relations with the neighboring states, Tajikistan in particular.

President Raisi made the remarks prior to his departure for SCO summit slated for September 16 in the Tajik capital.

The SCO has currently eight members, including China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan; while Iran and three others act as observers.
