Tehran, IRNA – The third phase of clinical trial for domestically made COVID-19 vaccine ‘Fakhra’ started in the presence of Iranian Health Minister Bahram Eynollahi and Defense Minister Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Qaraei Ashtiani.

At this stage, Fakhra will be injected to 40,000 volunteers.

Head of Health, Rescue and Treatment department of the Iranian Defense Ministry Brigadier General Allahveran said that the third phase would finish in three months and Fakhra would then be given to Health Ministry.

Some 135 people were vaccinated during the first clinical trial phase. In the second phase also 500 people were vaccinated.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Eynollahi hailed Fakhra quality and effectiveness.

He added that due to the critical situation in the country, Iran has to import vaccine to accelerate vaccination process.

Referring to vaccination of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei with an Iranian-made vaccine, he said that the best type of vaccine was being produced in Iran and the country would need no imports in the near future.
