Iran, Saudi Arabia likely to hold 4th round of talks: Ambassador

Baghdad, IRNA – Iran’s Ambassador to Baghdad Iraj Masjedi said on Wednesday that the fourth round of talks is likely to be held between Iran and Saudi Arabia as the two countries have already held three rounds of negotiations.

Masjedi made the remarks speaking exclusively with IRNA when asked why foreign ministers of Iran and Saudi Arabia did not meet on the sidelines of a recent summit in Baghdad.

“We had negotiated three rounds and the negotiators of the two countries had various talks, it was decided that these negotiations would continue, and because of the formation of a new government in Iran, the talks were postponed to the formation of the new government of the Islamic Republic. In fact, it was better for us to follow and continue the same negotiation process.”

He believed that the new round of talks will happen.

On the venue of the fourth round of talks, he said that the talks may be hosted by Baghdad.

He said that Iran has offered some proposals to the Iraqi government for receiving Iranian pilgrims for Arbaeen rituals and the Iraqi side have promised to consider the proposals and announce their final decision.

The ambassador expressed hope that the Iraqi officials will announce their decision by the end of this week.
