Pakistan Naval Chief stresses importance of stronger ties with Iran

Islamabad, IRNA -- Chief of Pakistan Navy expressing satisfaction with his recent visit to Iran has stressed the importance of deepening bilateral relations with the Islamic Republic and cooperation between navies of the two countries.

Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi expressed these views during a meeting with the Ambassador of Islamic Republic of Iran to Pakistan Mohammad Ali Hosseini at Naval Headquarters in Islamabad on Monday.

Admiral Amjad Niazi referring to his meeting with Commander Islamic Republic of Iran Navy (IRIN) Rear Admiral Shahram Irani, stressed the need to enhance maritime cooperation between the two countries.

Pakistani Navy Public Relations office in a statement said during the call-on, the dignitaries discussed matters of mutual interest, bilateral collaborations and maritime security in the region.

The Iranian ambassador appreciated the cooperation of the Pakistani side in releasing the seized Iranian ships and expressed hope that other problems in this area would be resolved with more cooperation between the two sides.

Efforts to sign bilateral maritime agreements and exchange of delegations between Iran and Pakistan were other topics discussed during the meeting.

Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi visited Iran on August 21 where he met Commander Islamic Republic of Iran Navy (IRIN) Rear Admiral Shahram Irani and Commander of Northern Fleet Commodore Abdolvahab Taheri.

During a meeting with his Iranian counterpart he invited the navy of Iran to participate in International Aman exercise to be hosted by Pakistan Navy.
