The foreign ministers also discussed the necessity of resuming talks on the revival of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal as well as the sophisticated regional situation particularly in Afghanistan.
Lavrov pointed to the need for regional and international convergence by Tehran and Moscow, stressing that Russia is keen on resuming nuclear talks in Vienna, Austria.
The two FMs further assessed the current developments in Afghanistan, emphasizing that Moscow and Tehran have similar point of view on what is happening in the war-torn country.
Calling for peaceful negotiations among political factions in Afghanistan and formation of an inclusive government in the country as the only way to stop violence, they stated that Russia and Iran will support any government in Afghanistan, which is being formed following peaceful talks.
They also held talks on the need for going ahead with constant coordination to pave the ground for resolving political issues in Syria in the framework of Astana negotiations.
The two sides further discussed Iran’s membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
