Pres. Raisi calls expanding ties with China a foreign policy priority

Tehran, IRNA – Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi called improving the level of cooperation and expanding relations with China a priority in his foreign policy.

He made the remarks in a phone conversation with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on Wednesday afternoon when he described  a number of China's strategic plans including the "One Belt-One Road" initiative in line with Iran's interests.

He said that the full implementation of the Iran-China comprehensive cooperation plan should be on the agenda of both countries.

President Raisi went on condemn the blatant US interference in China's internal affairs and appreciated Beijing's cooperation with Iran in various international arenas, including the talks on Iran's nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Tehran's bid to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and its opposition to sanctions against Iran.

The Iranian President further hailed China's constructive role in countering the Corona, especially its vaccine donations to many world countries as a praiseworthy measure and emphasized that turning the COVID19 pandemic into a political issue posed a serious threat to global health undertaken by certain countries to isolate China.

Stressing Iran's commitment to international treaties, he criticized the US instrumental use of these treaties and stressed the US must show in practice that it adheres to its obligations by practically stopping their violation.

He further stressed the need for the US to immediately and unconditionally lift all sanctions and fulfill its obligations in full.

President Raisi voiced Iran's readiness to cooperate with China in establishing security, stability and peace in Afghanistan and striving for its development, progress and.

He believed the departure of foreigners, as well as past experiences in this country, has highlighted the need for the support and participation of all Afghan groups to ensure the  security and development of Afghanistan more than ever before.

The Chinese President Xi Jinping, too, expressed satisfaction over the fact that relations between the two countries have been expanding over the past 50 years, regardless of changing international conditions.

He said Iran and China have achieved significant results accomplishments during the course of their relations.

The Chinese president also expressed support for Iran's formal membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) which he said will be in the long-term interests of the organization.

Praising the constructive cooperation between Iran and China during the COVID19 pandemic, Xi said that his country will do its utmost to deliver the vaccine to Iran and help Iran overcome the COVID19 virus.

He said some Western countries are conducting political games under the pretext of rooting out the spread of the coronavirus.

Welcoming Iran's participation in the "One Belt - One Road" initiative, the Chinese President announced Beijing's readiness to strengthen cooperation with Tehran in this field.

In another part of his speech, he stated that the United States has unilaterally withdrawn from the UN Security Council and put maximum pressure on Iran, terming the act as the main source of the current nuclear crisis.

He voiced China supports Iran's reasonable demands.

Turning to the situation in Afghanistan, he noted that China and Iran have common interests and demands in this issue and have had good cooperation in recent years.

He stressed that China is ready to strengthen coordination and cooperation with Iran in face of new developments in Afghanistan .
