Iran’s 5 provinces on yellow alert due to quake

Tehran, IRNA- Head of Iran's Red Crescent Society's Rescue and Relief Organization on Sunday called on five provinces to be on the yellow alert due to the recent quake in Tehran.

Mehdi Valipour called on the Red Crescent Society in the provinces Tehran, Qom, Semnan, Alborz, and Mazandaran to stay on alert.

A quake measured 3.9 on the Richter scale shook Tehran Province today at 17:11.

The quake struck at a depth of 8 kilometers at Bumehen district in the border of Tehran and Mazandaran.

The epicenter of the quake was located at 51.87 degrees longitude and 35.82 degrees latitude.

No report has so far been released on the likely casualties or damage to the property.

Iran sits on major fault lines and is prone to near-daily earthquakes.
