Iran expresses concern over rising violence in Afghanistan

Tehran, IRNA- Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh on Friday expressed concern over rising violence in Afghanistan.

He called on the warring sides to protect the lives of innocents and civilians amid the current situation.

Taliban has taken control of Herat city, he said, calling on the sides to ensure the full safety and health of diplomats and the premises.

He announced the Ministry's constant contact with the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Herat.

Iranian officials are following up on the health status of colleagues stationed there, he pointed out.

Earlier today, the Director-General of West Asia at Iran's Foreign Ministry said that Iranian diplomats are inside Iran's consulate general in Herat and the officials are keeping in constant touch with them.

On Thursday, the Taliban forces took over Herat city of Afghanistan.
