Commander says recent maritime incident "psychological operation" by foes

Tehran, IRNA – The chief spokesman for Iran’s Armed Forces said that if Iran were supposed to counter the enemy, it would publicly announce it, like what it did in the missile attack on Ayn al Asad Airbase, calling the recent maritime incident off the coast of Oman a psychological operation.

Speaking in a ceremony to commemorate Journalists Day on Sunday, Brigadier-General Abol-Fazl Shekarchi said that journalistic narratives can overcome conspiracy of the foes during wartime.

He said that by fabricating a maritime incident near the coast of Oman, the Israeli regime, the United States, and the UK started a media war when the new presidency term was being inaugurated in Iran.

On July 30, a Japanese oil tanker operated by an Israeli company was attacked off the coast of Oman and a British and a Romanian worker aboard the ship were killed.

The Israeli regime wasted no time to blame the incident on Iran. Shortly after, the US and the UK followed suit and pointed to Iran as the perpetrator, without providing any evidence or explaining why Iran would carry out such an attack during a power transition under process in the country.

Shekarchi underlined that the three co-conspirators were trying to fabricate documents to accuse Iran and Americans have allegedly found parts of drones without explaining that how they could attribute the parts to Iran.

He stressed that Iran would attack explicitly if it wanted to, like what it did in Ayn al-Asad Airbase in Iraq, referring to the missile attack Iran carried out against US forces in the base in response to the US assassination of the Martyr General Qasem Soleimani.
