Tehran, IRNA – President Ebrahim Raisi met on Friday foreign ministers of India and Nigeria and Special Envoy of United Arab Emirates who attended his inauguration ceremony.

In the meeting with Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Raisi pointed to the great capacities of Iran and India in economy, trade and technology, and said that he would pursue expansion of ties with New Delhi.

He underlined that there should be a joint plan for elevating ties between Iran and India, as it could change conditions for both nations to strengthen their relationship.

Iran and India play a constructive, useful role in providing security of the region, especially Afghanistan, and Tehran would welcome if New Delhi was to play a role in establishing peace in this country.

India’s Jaishankar praised Raisi’s inaugural address, and said that he would convey his views to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He stressed that the current level of Iran-India relationship was not desirable and they were determined to establish long-term cooperation with Iran.

Raisi also received Nigeria’s Minister of State Foreign Affairs Zubairu Dada on Friday and told him that Iran had a serious determination to expand its ties with African nations.

He asked Nigerian authorities to remove any hurdle against boosting bilateral ties.

Dada hoped that both countries would elevate bilateral cooperation in Raisi’s tenure.

Elsewhere, newly sworn-in Raisi met UAE’s special envoy and proposed establishing a joint mechanism to operationalize all capacities to strengthen Iran-UAE ties.

He said that Iran is a true and honest friend for the UAE and other nations in the region, and added that he had a heartfelt appreciation towards Emirati people and a close relationship between governments in Iran and the UAE could pave the way for brotherly cooperation.

The President also underlined that Iran's support for Palestinians was exemplary and Tehran expected Muslim and Arab states to be pioneers in supporting them.

He also made remarks on the war in Yemen, stressing that Yemen’s fate should be determined by its people and peace in Yemen could be guaranteed by a shared view by countries in the region.

The Israeli regime is not the friend of countries in West Asia, Raisi said, warning that normalizing Arab nations was aimed at undermining the capacity of Muslim World in defending Palestine.

The UAE envoy conveyed the congratulation messages by the head of government, crown prince and armed forces commander of the UAE on Raisi’s presidency and expressed content over Raisi’s remarks on friendship with neighbors in his inaugural address.

He said that Abu Dhabi was confident about the future of ties and establishment of peace in the region, given wise remarks made by Iran’s President in his inauguration.
