Serbia keen on developing all-out ties with Iran: Speaker

Belgrade, IRNA - Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic emphasized that his country is ready to expand its relationship with Iran in all sectors.

Dacic made the remark before leaving Belgrade for Tehran to participate in the swearing-in ceremony of president-elect Ebrahim Raisi, told IRNA correspondent that he is proud of being selected to take part in the ceremony on behalf of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

As for the amicable ties between Serbia and the Islamic Republic of Iran, the speaker noted that his country calls for the expansion of mutual relations with Tehran in all areas.

We try to upgrade the relationships in different fields to a higher level than what it is now," he said, adding that "and to do so, there is a need to hold more trade seminars, he added.

The Iranian people are great friends of us, especially in this special time we should stand together, Dacic said, noting that the Serbian government donates 50,000 doses of corona vaccine to Iran.

Addressing Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran Rashid Hassanpour to Belgrade at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport, Dacic stipulated that the strengthening of parliamentary cooperation between the two countries is necessary and vital.

Ebrahim Raisi will swear in as president of the Islamic Republic of Iran at the parliament at 17:00 local time. 

Out of over 59.3 million eligible voters, nearly 29 million took part in the 13th presidential election on June 18, 2021. Ebrahim Raisi won the presidential race with 17,926,345 votes out of the total 28,933,004 ballots, which shows a 48.8 percent turnout.

The swearing-in of the president in Iran is based on Article 121 of the constitution. According to the constitution, in the swearing-in ceremony, the Judiciary chief and members of the Expediency Council should be present in the parliament.

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei endorsed the decree of Ebrahim Raisi as the 8th president of Iran on Tuesday.
