Iran firm to challenge Israeli belligerence: Egyptian analyst

Tehran, IRNA - The Islamic Republic of Iran is the only country in the region, which is determined to challenge the Israeli regime's belligerent provocations, an Egyptian political expert says.

Hassan Nafaa, an Egyptian writer and professor of political science at Cairo University, pointed to a recent incident in a ship that belonged to a Zionist regime enterprise, writing on his Twitter account that the attack on an Israeli vessel in the Sea of Oman and the alleged charges against Iran's role in this respect indicates that the conflict between Iran and Israel is the main driver of actions in the region, and the situation will continue in the long-run future.

If Israel succeeds in derailing the Iran nuclear talks in Vienna and hampering the return of the United States to the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, the whole region will enter a new phase of escalation, which may end up in regional conflict, Nafaa warned, adding that in this case, the Arab littoral states of the Persian Gulf will lose more than other countries; so, the revival of the nuclear agreement is the main provision to preserve tranquility in the region.

Media sources reported last Thursday that an oil tanker belonged to the Zionist regime was attacked in the Sea of Oman; then, states such as the US, the UK, Canada, and Romania, as well as the European Union and NATO, reiterated allegations made by the Zionist regime and attempted to attribute the attack to the Islamic Republic of Iran.

But Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs ruled out any involvement in the attack on the oil tanker of the Zionist regime, warning that the Islamic Republic has no doubt to protect its security and national interests and it will respond to any possible adventurism undoubtedly and seriously.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran is a defender and supporter of safe and harmless shipping in the Persian Gulf and international waters, while it has the longest water borders in the Persian Gulf and is always ready to cooperate on providing maritime security with the regional countries," Saeed Khatibzadeh, Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Monday.
