Syria's al-Assad terms Iran as "main partner, ally in anti-terrorism campaign"

Tehran, IRNA – Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said referred to Iran as Syria’s main partner and praised the existing cooperation between the two countries in fighting terrorism.

Syria’s official news agency, SANA, he made the remarks in a meeting with the visiting Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and his accompanying delegation in Damascus on Wednesday.

He also hailed the strong bilateral ties and constructive cooperation in various levels.

The two sides meanwhile emphasized the important role of the Syrian and Iranian Parliaments in opening new horizons for bilateral cooperation, especially in economic field, not just in government sectors but in private sectors as well.

He said the mutual cooperation aimed at assisting the two friendly nations in overcoming economic war, and the policies of the anti-siege and anti-sanctions imposed against the two countries.

The Syrian President further emphasized that Iran is Syria’s main partner as Tehran stood by the  Syrian nation in its campaign against terrorism and supported Syria comprehensively at times of need.

The Syrian leader meanwhile noted that the harmony between the two countries had quite a positive effect in anti-terrorism campaign and believed this cooperation will last till full liberation of the Syrian lands and full defat of the terrorist groups.

Qalibaf, too, said that recent elections in Syrian and Iran have proved that the pressure polices against both nations have failed.

Qalibaf arrived in Damascus, Syria, on Tuesday morning atop a high ranking parliamentary delegation.

The Iranian Parliament speaker is the highest ranking Iranian official to visit Syria after the end of the lingering crisis in that country.
