Rouhani inaugurates Goreh-Jask crude oil transfer project

Tehran, IRNA – President Hassan Rouhani on Thursday morning inaugurated the national crude oil transfer project from Goreh to Jask in the Persian Gulf via video conference.

This the 83rd national project to be launched by President Rouhani within the framework of a mega plan to materialize a leap in production as stated by Iran's Supreme Leader.

The crude oil transfer line from Goreh to Jask, for the first time in the Iranian history, enables the export of oil without the need to cross the Strait of Hormuz.

In its first phase, the project has a capacity of 300,000 barrels of oil per day.

A total of 53,000 billion tomans has been invested in the construction of this pipeline, and with its official operation, sustainable employment will be created for 10,000 people.

Explaining the plan and the process of its implementation and operation, Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh described the day as a historical occasion for the Iranian oil industry as the export of the Iranian crude oil from the Makran region begins.

According to the Minister, more than 250 companies have been involved in the project which he described as "huge national project, which was implemented and operated under the harsh sanctions and economic war."

He said the project will pave the way for economic development in the Makran region.

Rouhani termed the mega project as an honor for the Iranian oil industry and said lapse of time will reveal the significance of the project even more.

He said the work knows well the value of this project because having an oil export terminal outside the Persian Gulf and in the Oman Sea is very precious and valuable.

Earlier, the chief of the National Iranian Oil Company announced that pumping oil into strategic Goreh-Jask pipeline will start upon its completion by the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in near future.

Masoud Karbasian said that the pipeline will bring oil from Goreh in Bushehr to Jask, making it strategically important as the country’s second-largest crude oil export terminal.

The pipeline is laid from Goreh oil terminal in the southwestern Bushehr Province to Jask oil terminal along the Gulf of Oman.

He added that other operating units in Goreh-Jask pipeline project are in a steady situation to transfer oil to Jask terminal, and pumping oil into strategic Goreh-Jask pipeline is being done in a steady situation.

Referring to the importance of the project, Karbasian added that operations have begun to start injecting oil into the 1,000km Goreh-Jask pipeline.

Stating that the Goreh-Jask oil transfer project is currently the largest project in Iran’s oil industry, Karbasian said: “Production of transmission valves, electric pumps, laying a thousand kilometers of pipeline along with the construction of storage tanks, terminals and the single point mooring (SPM) in Jask port using domestic capacities shows the national determination for completing this great and strategic project.”

The Goreh-Jask oil transfer project is going to provide Iran with an alternative route for the country’s crude oil exports that are currently carried out through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran’s new 1000-kilometer-long Goreh-Jask oil pipeline in the southern Hormozgan province, which will provide the country with an alternative route for crude oil exports that are currently transferred through the Strait of Hormuz, has registered over 60 percent of physical progress and is underway with full force.
