Raisi: Expanding ties with neighbors, top foreign policy priority

Tehran, IRNA – Iran's President-elect Ebrahim Raisi in a telephone conversation with Turkmenistan's President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov said expansion of relations with neighbors is the first foreign policy priority.

Raisi congratulated him on the great Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha as well as Turkmenistan's independence anniversary.

Expanding relations with neighbors is the first priority of the next Iranian government," he said.

He also described bilateral relations as "more than just a neighboring country" and pointed to the two countries' vast potential for improving relations.

He further emphasized the continuation and strengthening of international cooperation between Iran and Turkmenistan.

Raisi also stressed developments in Afghanistan as very important for both countries and highlighted the need for the officials of the two countries for holding talks and consultations in this regard.

The Iranian President-elect further thanked the Turkmen President for inviting him to attend the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) summit and the Caspian littoral states, as well as an official visit to the country.

Berdymukhamedov, too, congratulated Raisi on Eid ul-Adha.

Pointing to the deep historical and cultural roots of Tehran-Ashgabat relations, he said the relations between the two countries have been developed on the basis of the principles of equality, mutual respect and mutual interests.

The Turkmen President added that the cooperation and interaction between the two countries in the international arena is also at a high level.
