Rouhani made the remarks in a telephone conversation with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi.
He said that the results of the strategic bond between the two countries go beyond and guarantee the security and stability of the entire region.
For Iran, supporting the stability and security, independence and territorial integrity of Iraq is significant, he underscored.
Iran considers the security and stability of Iraq as its security, he said, noting that Iran supports the participation of this neighboring Muslim country in regional interactions.
Americans are playing a double game in confronting terrorism and that their actions on the Iraqi-Syrian border have been against the regional interests, he underlined.
These days, we are witnessing the complicated game of the US in Iraq, he said, adding that the policies will not help to establish security and stability in Iraq, and will complicate the situation.
He said that the Americans have always played a counterproductive role in the region, noting the regional problems should be resolved by the states of the region.
Touching on the high potentials of cooperation between the two countries in the economic and trade fields, he called for implementing the previous agreements, including the significant Shalamcheh-Basra railway project, and defining a roadmap for economic cooperation as well as economic-trade strategy between the two states.
Iran and Iraq can complement each other by boosting their cooperation as they could be regarded as the two complementary economies, Rouhani pointed out.
Prime Minister of Iraq, for his part, congratulated the government and people of Iran on Eid al-Adha and termed the bilateral relations as very friendly and strong.
He urged to further bolster the relationship and the continuation of mutual and regional cooperation between the two countries in the coming months.
He appreciated the Iranian government and people for supporting the Iraq in the fight against terrorism and the ISIS, as well as for establishing peace, stability and security in the country.
