Freestyle wrestling is considered a national sport in Iran and is the most decorated in Olympics among sports fields in Iran.
Iranian wrestlers in their 17 periods of presence in the Olympics from 1948 until now have bagged 36 golds, 13 slivers and 17 bronzes. In Greco-Roman style wrestling, Iranian athletes have so far scooped 3 golds, one silver and 3 bronzes in Olympic Games.
6 freestyle wrestlers in companion with 5 Greco-Roman style athletes from Iran are going to carry Iran’s hopes in Tokyo Olympics competitions to hopefully have their pictures hanged on the wall in the Hall of Fame in Iran’s Wrestling Home.
The number of wrestlers, however, could undergo change until the competitions begin.
Hassan Yazdani (Iran), Abdulrashid Sadulaev (Russia), Kyle Snyder (US) and Taha Akgul (Turkey) are four gold medalists of Rio Olympics 2016 in freestyle wrestling who also attend this year’s Olympics in Tokyo.
Ismael Borrero Molina (Cuba), Artur Aleksanyan (Armenia) and Mijaín López (Cuba) are Rio Olympics 2016 gold medalists Greco-Roman wrestling who rumble in Tokyo Olympics, too.
