Iran keen to partake in Azerbaijan’s economic projects

Baku, July 9, IRNA – Iran’s East Azarbaijan province has expressed readiness to collaborate in implementing economic and constructional projects of Azerbaijan Republic in its newly liberated territories.

Ali Jahangiri, deputy governor of East Azarbaijan province for economic affairs, told reporters on Wednesday at the end of a three-day visit to Baku (capital city of Azerbaijan Republic) that Iranian companies active in production of industrial and building materials are ready to cooperate in construction projects in lands freed from Armenia following a six-week war between Baku and Yerevan in 2020.

The cost of transportation of bulky goods is an important issue; so, East Azarbaijan province, especially Tabriz (capital city of the province), is the best place to deliver commodities to Azerbaijan Republic due to the vicinity, the provincial official said, noting that foreign companies can also procure a part of their required commodities from this province.

Heading an economic delegation, Jahangiri added that the two sides discussed the ways to expand cooperation in particular in civil and infrastructure projects in the liberated areas.

The three-day visit was coordinated by Iran’s embassy in Azerbaijan Republic in order to pave the ground for reviewing strategies to bolster economic and industrial cooperation between the two countries.

He pointed out to the constructive talks between authorities of both countries as well as readiness to increase joint investments. The two sides further held talks on holding an exhibition in a bid to showcase Iran’s industrial and economic capacities in Baku.

According to the deputy governor, both parties emphasized on the need for abandoning traditional trade in order to promote technological and industrial cooperation.
