Iranian athletes gain one  gold, 3 bronze medals in Russia’s Aliev Freestyle Cup

Tehran, IRNA – Selected athletes from the Iranian national Freestyle Team participating in Russia’s Aliev Freestyle Cup ended their competitions on Sunday winning one gold and three bronze medals.

In the 2021 International Aliev Freestyle Cup games which were held on June 26 and 27 in Kaspiysk city of Russia’s Dagestan the medal winner members of the Iranian eight-man team was inclusive of Mohammad Javad Ebrahimi who won the gold medal of the 92kg weigh, and Amid Hossein Maqsudi, Arashk Mohebbi, and Mojtaba Golij respectively in 70, 92 and 97 kilogram weighs who won the bronze medals.

In 75kg weigh Alireza Sarlak after his rest during the first round faced Bazerganov from Azerbaijan Republic in the second round and lost to him 13-4, and since that athlete, too, lost his semi-final match Sarlak lost the chance to compete in the 3rd round.

In 70kg Amir Hossein Maqsudi, too, gained the rest lot in first rind, but defeated Russia’s Yand Yandiev 10-nil in the second round and also Russia’s other athlete Imam Ganishev 4-4, paving his path to the semi-final. Maqsudi lost the semi-final 3-4 to Russia’s Rezvan Kajarov to have the chance for the bronze in the next round. He beat Talgat Sirbaz form Kazakhstan in that round and gained the bronze.

In 92kg Mohammad Javad Ebrahimi and Arashk Mohebbi both gained the rest lots in the first round. These two athletes faced each other in the second round in which Ebrahimi beat Mohebbi 5-2. In the third round, too, he defeated Yuri Ivanev from Russia to go to the semi-final. In that round Ebrahimi beat 5-nil Omar Gadji Magemdov from Belorussia to pave his path to the final. His competitor in final was Zibigniev Baronevski form Poland was also defeated 6-3, and thus Ebrahimi gained his gold medal.

Ebrahimi’s presence in final led to Mohebi’s fall to the losers’ group. There he had another chance to wrestle versus Russia’s Ivanov, whom he defated 4-nil to go to the semi-final, where he also defeated Belorussia’s Omar Magdov and won the bronze medal.

In 97kg Iran’s Mojtaba Golij in the first round beat Ukraine’s Mahamed Zakayev 20-nil; in the second round he beat the world champion Abdol Rashid Sadollayev 4-0, and since that athlete was a finalist Golij dropped to the losers’ group. There the Russian athletes refrained from going to the mattress and therefore Golij gained the bronze medal easily.
