Inlaid work artist from Shiraz wins top prize of Indian Arts Festival

Shiraz, IRNA – Fars Province deputy head of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Office said here on Saturday that veteran inlaid works artist Gholam Ali Etminan won the first prize of the 2021 14th Indian Arts Festival.

According to the IRNA Arts and Culture Desk, Heidar Ali Zahedian Nezhad said that the representative of Iran at that internationally renowned festival who was competing with artists from 66 countries ranked first based on the judges’ votes.

He said that Shiraz inlaid works have been registered at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), adding that the name of Shiraz is associated with inlaid works, which is one of the noble trades of this city’s citizens and that the oldest sample of this art is found at the Jameh Atigh Mosque, which is some 1,000 years old.

He further reiterated that although inlaid works are practiced in some other Iranian provinces as well, this art’s roots are in Shiraz and the style of Shiraz inlaid works still have such special features as visual beauty that places them with a very broad margin atop the Iranian inlaid works.
