A few steps to lifting anti-Iran sanctions

Tehran, IRNA – Negotiators participating in the Joint Commission meetings of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) has succeeded in declining differences gradually in six rounds of talks in Vienna, Austria, and observers believe that the nuclear deal would be revived before the end of the outgoing administration in Iran.

Diplomats of the P4+1 group (the UK, France, Russia, China plus Germany) and Iran came back to their capitals to consult on achievements and ways to reach an agreement in the seventh round of talks; so, there are some hopes that the anti-Iran sanctions imposed by the United States will be lifted and the JCPOA will be revitalized within a few weeks of the administration of President Hassan Rouhani

President Rouhani already expressed hope that the sanctions will be removed soon, because the other side [the US] has no way except returning to its commitments under the nuclear deal.

Every round of the sessions, held since March, has played the role of a piece of a puzzle to pave the ground for the revival of the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement.

Heiko Maas, Germany’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, said after a meeting with his American counterpart Antony Blinken in Berlin on Wednesday that there seems to be a good chance to revive the JCPOA, underlining that despite the difficulties, the negotiating teams have had progress in every round of talks and there is good opportunity to finalize the negotiations in the near future.

One of the main sources of disagreement between Iran and other signatories of the deal plus the United States is that Tehran calls on the other sides to lift the US’s nuclear-related sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

Iranian presidential chief of staff Mahmoud Vaezi has stated that there is no problem regarding banks, insurance, oil, and shipping because all of these issues have been agreed upon.

Vaezi went on to say that according to agreements reached in Vienna talks, around 1040 sanctions are being lifted and bans on special Iranian officials and entities are going to be removed.

Undoubtedly, the Iranian negotiating team will try to pave the way for lifting of more sanctions in the seventh round of talks in Vienna.

Former US president Donald Trump imposed sanctions on Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) as well as many other authorities and entities. The Trump administration attempted to label the Iranian organizations and individuals as terrorist and violator of human rights to hinder the Biden administration from lifting sanctions easily.

However, observers think that the Biden administration and its Western allies would come on the conclusion that the last days of the current administration in Iran is the best chance to revive the nuclear deal.
