According to the public relations office of Press TV, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) blocked access to the domain presstv.com in an unprecedented measure on Sunday night (Tehran time).
Since the first hours of Sunday night, a similar picture of blockage has been illustrated on other websites of some Iranian and West Asian news agencies and TV networks such as Alalam, al-Masirah and al-Kawthar.
The picture of blockage has a text read that the websites have been seized in accordance with the United States’ internal regulations of the Bureau of Industry and Security, Office of Export Enforcement and Federal Bureau of Investigation, which is a justification for such an illegal act in international arena. The laws allow the US government to seize assets of entities involved in smuggling of technologies as well as nuclear, chemical, biologic and radiologic substances and weapons or engaged in producing, importing, selling and distributing of such illegal substances.
The FBI has twitted, “The #FBI works with federal, state, local, and private sector partners, including those in the health care and scientific communities, to safeguard Americans’ sensitive data from foreign adversaries while preserving their ability to continue innovation.”
A prominent American journalist said that the Biden administration has announced that it has nothing to say about the seizure of the domain presstv.com, but it is possible that the United States Department of Justice will inform on the issue in the future.
Press TV network’s IT department has confirmed that the domain presstv.com is out of reach, but the website will continue work by using the domain presstv.ir.
It is not for the first time that the United States targets Press TV network and carries out its terroristic policy against such an independent media. Press TV’s social media platforms have been blocked several times so far. The last attack happened when Google blocked the network’s YouTube account forever.
