Russian ambassador stresses need for boosting economic, political ties with IRAN

Tehran, IRNA – The Russian ambassador to Iran Levan Jagarian emphasized the need for boosting economic cooperation with Iran parallel with the two countries’ excellent political ties.

Jagarian made the comment in his Tuesday evening meeting with the IRNA Managing Director Mohammad Reza Norouzpour.

During the meeting, he expressed hope that after elimination of Corona restrictions  soon, Moscow will host Joint Bilateral Economic Commission.

He referred to the exemplary smooth holding of the presidential elections in Iran and said that President Vladimir Putin’s congratulation massage to President-elect Ebrahim Raisi is a sign of Kremlin’s both good will and determination for expansion of interactions and cooperation with Tehran.

“Iran-Russia relations expanded noticeably during President Ruhani’s tenure and the meetings of President Putin with the Supreme Leader and the president, as well as the meetings of the two countries’ foreign ministers were signs of good relations,” he said, expressing hope that during the new government and Mr. Raisi’s tenure as president the Tehran-Moscow relations, particularly in economic and business field will reach the expected level.

The Russian ambassador to Tehran said that the relations between the two powerful, independent neighboring countries is of great significance and the entire high ranking Russian officials attach special importance to further expanding and developing relations with Iran.

He emphasized the importance of cooperation between Iran and Russia in the region, and in Syria, and especially in campaign against terrorism and extremism, reiterating: Moscow considers Iran’s worries about the escalating insecurity in Afghanistan as quite logical and true, believing that this situation is the result of the wrong, inappropriate and irresponsible US policies in that country, such as their untimely exit from Afghanistan.

The IRNA managing director, too, said in the meeting with the Russian ambassador that Iran’s relations with Russia are quite noble and in need of further development in all fields, and this has been a strategic policy in the agenda of the entire Iranian governments.

Norouzpour also referred to the importance of the bilateral Iran-Russia relations, arguing that the state visits of the two countries’ presidents, especially President Rouhani’s two visits, affected the Tehran-Moscow relations noticeably and put them on the rial of strategic ties.

“Mr. Putin was the first foreign president who congratulated the election of president elect Raisi,” he said, emphasizing: That was a sign of the good political relations between Iran and Russia, and it strengthens the hope that the level of relations will also expand during this new era,” said the IRNA managing director.

Norouzpour also appreciated Russia’s support for Iranian nation’s rights at the international organizations against the US totalitarianism, reiterating: The political relations between Iran and Russia are at an acceptable level and the peak of political, military and security bilateral cooperation can be seen in campaign against international terrorism in Syria.
