Fars Province experiencing significant development in tourism

Tehran, June 14, IRNA – Fars Province pilgrims coordination official said on Monday that developments and measures taken in tourism and handicrafts area in this southern country province have been significant in the last eight years.

There have been measures taken to improve Fars Province’s tourism and handicrafts area in accordance with the existing capacities and possibilities, Alinaqi Tabib Loqmani told IRNA in response to a presidential candidate who questioned activities in the area of cultural heritage in the province.

Tabib Loqmani said that during the last eight years, five historical places have been globally registered in three counties of Fars Province.

He also pointed to the global registration of Shiraz city as the world city for handicrafts, Abadeh city as the world city for wood carving and Firuzabad city as the world city for nomad handwoven crafts.

From among 1,200 national heritage registered in Fars Province, 500 cases have been registered during the eight-year term of the current administration, he added.

The official also referred to the 67 percent increase in beds and construction of Iran’s first five-star hotel in Sadra city in Fars Province.

Holding several festivals in Tomb of Hafez, Tomb of Saadi and Persepolis and the Chelcheragh Festival related to the Holy Shrine of Ahmad bin Mousa with submission of over 1,000 scientific articles were among other activities of tourism authorities in Fars Province, according to Tabib Loqmani.

He also said that ecotourism was put in the focus during the eight-year term of the current administration which has so far led to establishment of 160 ecotourism centers which would reach 400 units by now if the coronavirus pandemic and consequent restrictions didn’t happen.
