Sunni Ulema in northeast Iran express readiness for presidential election

Bojnourd, June 7, IRNA – Sunni Ulema and clerics in northeastern Iranian province of North Khorasan in a letter to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution on Monday expressed their readiness to massively take part in the upcoming presidential election nationwide.

High turnout in the election will foil plots of the US and the occupying regime of Israel, the Sunni clerics said through the letter.

The 13th presidential election in Iran is slated for June 18.

Through attending the upcoming election, an epic unity and coherence will be created nationwide, the letter noted.

The Ulema and clerics also described the forthcoming presidential election as the one that guarantees the country's security.

Over ten percent of population in North Khorasan Province is Sunni Turkmens.

Iran’s 13th presidential election will be held simultaneously with the sixth round of municipal council elections for the cities and villages, the first mid-term for 11th round of parliamentary by-election, and the second mid-term for the fifth round of Assembly of Experts' election on June 18.

On May 25, Iran’s Ministry of Interior released the names of seven presidential hopefuls who have been qualified by the Guardian Council.
