Tehran, May 30, IRNA - The following headlines appeared in English-language newspapers in the Iranian capital on Sunday:


-- Iran to conclude COVID-19 vaccination by fall: President
Nationwide vaccination against the COVID-19 in Iran will begin in summer and conclude by the end of fall if the production of homegrown vaccines and import of foreign ones go on seamlessly, President Hassan Rouhani said.
Speaking at a meeting of the National Headquarters for Managing and Fighting the Coronavirus on Saturday, Rouhani said the general vaccination scheme in Iran will be over by December if the country produces the necessary amount of homegrown vaccines and purchases enough vaccines from abroad.

-- $2b MoU signed on construction of new IKIA terminal

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) worth $2 billion was signed on Saturday for the construction of the new terminal of Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKIA) in presence of Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami.
Head of the Civil Aviation Organization of Iran Touraj Dehqani Zanganeh and Managing Director of the Iran Airports and Air Navigation Company Siavash Amir-Makri also attended the event.
The $2-billion MoU was signed under the framework of build-operate-transfer (BOT) by the Imam Khomeini Airport City (IKAC), the Iran Airports and Air Navigation Company and Bank Pasargad.

-- ‘Iran Ready to Enhance Syria’s Defense Capabilities’

In a congratulatory message to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on his re-election, Iran’s highest-ranking military commander on Saturday expressed the country’s readiness to enhance the Arab country’s defense capabilities and help in the process of post-war reconstruction.
Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Muhammad Hussein Baqeri assured that the “strategic and friendly” cooperation between the armed forces of Iran and Syria will continue and grow.

-- General: U.S., Zionists to Face Bigger Defeats

The commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force on Saturday warned the Zionist regime and the U.S. that they will face bigger defeats as the resistance front’s victories are not confined to the region.
Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh reminded the global arrogance and the Zionist regime that their successive defeats are not confined to the Palestinian occupied territories, Lebanon, Syria, Iran, Iraq or Yemen. “They must pack up and leave” the region, the commander warned the U.S. and the occupying regime of Israel.

-- Two Iranians Win Bronze at Asian Elite Boxing Championships

 Shahin Mousavi and Pouria Amiri from Iran have claimed two bronze medals on the fifth day of the Asian Elite Boxing Championships.
Mousavi won a bronze medal in the 75kg weight class. Amiri also seized a bronze in the +91kg.
Danial Shahbakhsh in the 60kg and Meysam Gheshlaghi in the 81kg have earned their place at the final.
Iran has sent eight boxers to the 2021 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Dubai, the UAE.


-- Iran voices strong support for Palestine

A number of senior Iranian military officials have expressed support of the Palestinian resistance groups amid the ongoing de-escalation mediation efforts by Egypt to beef up a recent ceasefire between Israel and the Gaza Strip.

The officials, mostly affiliated with the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC), underlined that a new era has begun in Palestine in the wake of the 11-day war Israel waged on Gaza in May.

IRGC chief General Hossein Salami said the Palestinians emerged stronger from the war and they will get stronger by the day.

-- Iran’s Mohammad Hayati among winners of Milky Way photo contest

Iranian photographer Mohammad Hayati is among the 25 winners of the Milky Way Photographer of the Year competition, which is organized every year by the travel and adventure photography blog Capture the Atlas.

Hayati was selected for his “Night Lovers”, a single photo taken near the Persian Gulf in Hormozgan Province. This picture depicts the Milky Way rising on a fascinating spring night in the region.

-- Parthian underground city getting prepared for public visits

Samen underground city is getting prepared to reopen to the public in west-central Iran. The ancient troglodytic settlement dates back to the Parthian era (247 BC – 224 CE) based on archaeological evidence. Currently, an entrance, which bears Parthian architectural motives and elements, is being constructed next to the underground city, which is located in Hamedan province, CHTN quoted provincial tourism chief Ali Malmir as saying on Saturday.

Installation of lighting equipment, museum displays, and security devices are amongst other works being carried out in the underground town, the official noted.
