In an interview with IRNA, Hossein Khanipour, a senior Sunni cleric in Gilan Province, said that since the beginning of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, Sunni Muslims have partaken broadly in all elections.
Describing participation in the June presidential election in Iran as "a national and religious duty", Khanipour added that all Iranians should have an active presence in elections.
"We don’t care what enemy says,” the Sunni Friday prayer leader of Talesh said, adding that national interests are important.
The Sunni Muslims in Iran like other Iranians partake in the elections for the prosperity of Iranian people and the development of the country,” he added.
Encouraging people to take part in the elections, Khanipour said that maximum turnout will preserve the dignity of Islamic Republic of Iran.
Iran’s 13th presidential election, as well as city and village councils elections, will be held on June 18 across Iran.
Iran’s Election Office of the Ministry of Interior on Tuesday announced the nominees vetted by the Guardian Council for the 13th presidential election in Iran.
