4.8 Richter quake rocks SW Iran

Dezful, March 8, IRNA - An earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale shook the city of Sāland, Dezful in southwestern province of Khuzestan on Sunday.

According to the Seismological Center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the earthquake occurred at 13:17 hours local time (09:37 GMT) and at the depth of 9 km underground.

The epicenter of the quake was located at 48.87 degrees longitude and 32.50 degrees latitude.

No report has so far been released on the likely casualties or damage to the property.

Iran sits on major fault lines and is prone to near-daily earthquakes.
