Tremor jolts southern Iran

Tehran, Feb 24, IRNA - An earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale shook the city of Ravar in southern province of Kerman on Monday.

According to the Seismological Center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the earthquake occurred at 4:03 hours local time (00:33 GMT) and at the depth of 10 km underground.

The epicenter of the quake was located at 56.60 degrees longitude and 31.26 degrees latitude.

No report has so far been released on the likely casualties or damage to the property.

Iran sits on major fault lines and is prone to near-daily earthquakes.
