ISCI head condemns riots in Najaf

Tehran, Nov 28, IRNA -- Leader of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq (ISCI) Humam Hamoudi in a statement on Thursday condemned riots in the sacred city of Najaf and setting fire to Iran's consulate, saying that any threat against the religious source of emulation in this holy city will be countered seriously.

"We are all devotees of Ayatollah Sistani," he said, voicing full readiness for countering any threat seeking to make Iraq insecure.

Iraqi media reported that rioters set fire to Iran's consulate in Najaf late Wednesday.

Iraqi Foreign Ministry in a statement on Thursday strongly condemned the attack on Iran's consulate in Najaf.

The statement said the attack was to hurt deeply rooted ties between Iraq and Iran.
