OANA picks IRNA as next president

Seoul, Nov 8, IRNA - The Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) voted Friday in favor of IRNA's nomination for the presidency at the 17th General Assembly meeting in Seoul, South Korea.

Zia Hashmi, the Managing Director of the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), told a gathering of members of the OANA in Seoul on Friday that as a longtime member of the union, IRNA has always strived to help OANA's goals and believes that the media nowadays for progress requires innovative initiatives in the field of collective cooperation.

OANA General Assembly starts Wednesday in Seoul. Official South Korean News Agency (Yonhap) will preside over the organization until next term as the host of the General Assembly. OANA 's members today will voted in favor of IRNA to host the next General Assembly in 2022.

South Korean President Moon Jae-In in a meeting with IRNA Chief Zia Hashemi emphasized that Seoul is working to restore Tehran-Seoul relations to its glorified era.

Zia Hashimi, Managing Director of the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), on Thursday during a meeting with the South Korean President, noted the heightened relations between the two countries after the presidency of Moon Jae In flourished in economic, political, and cultural perspectives, but after Donald Trump came to power in the US, the ties between Iran and Korea were also affected.

Hashemi stressed that given that South Korea is an independent and powerful country, one can expect Tehran and Seoul to be able to move forward in developing their relations.

The IRNA chief also called Trump's policies that disrupted international relations and trade war a very improper policy.
